Pulse & Pause

An ecological wellness landscape

Pulse & Pause transforms Çam Limanı, the sheltered bay between Heybeliada’s pine-covered hills and Değirmen Burnu, into an ecological wellness landscape for people escaping the pace of Istanbul. The project asks a simple question: how can a fragile coastal forest host restorative use without losing its character? The answer is minimal intervention. Existing trails, contours and pine texture are kept, heavy excavation is avoided and, guided by earthquake and tsunami risk, every structure is a lightweight, reversible timber element that touches the ground only where it must.

Pond, Park, Pace

Eco-equine landscape design

An ecological recreation park in Istanbul’s dense urban fabric, where horses and people share the same landscape. Beginning at the main square, the design crosses the ecological pond and ends at a quiet yoga area on the shore. This gradient from public vitality to natural stillness is the project’s central idea.

Park ≥ Park

Underground parking landscape design

This project transforms a former open-air car park in Çengelköy into a public square and park returned to the community. A sculpted grass mound anchors the plaza, while a glass pavilion, wooden seating and structured Mediterranean planting beds frame open walking spaces, restoring the site’s connection to the Bosphorus.

About

Portrait of Mert Yazıcıoğlu, smiling with arms crossed against a dark background.

I am Mert, a graduate of Landscape Architecture and Urban Design at Yeditepe University. A decade of hand drawing has given me the habit of observing a place first and then translating it into lines. Landscape architecture drew me in because it offers the chance to touch people’s daily lives and to create more livable environments.

During my student years, alongside my studies, I served as editor of the school magazine Teras, curated our department’s first exhibition and designed its poster, and volunteered at an international congress. These experiences taught me how to lead a team and to look at design from different disciplines. Thanks to my German and English education, I can work comfortably in an international environment. I am now looking to grow through projects that connect site-scale design with the larger urban context, and to keep learning alongside people who share that interest.
